As personnel evacuated MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, to escape Hurricane Irma, 12 Airmen assigned to the 6th Comptroller Squadron elected to stay behind to process advances on travel vouchers for junior enlisted service members who had not received their government travel cards. Between Sept. 8 and 9, 2017, nearly 3,000 on-base residents evacuated MacDill AFB due to weather projections forecasting that Hurricane Irma may directly impact the Tampa Bay area, which would be the first time since the 1921 Tampa Bay Hurricane.

Within the last few months the United States and its territories have been ravagged by three hurricanes, leaving many displaced and in need of aid. Starting with Hurricane Harvey, then Irma and now Maria, the Air Force Reserve Command continues to respond with supplies, aid and evacuation missions. On Sept. 24, a team of Citizen Airmen from the 45th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida, along with Airmen from the 16th Airlift Squadron, Charleston, South Carolina, evacuated 63 U.S. Virgin Islands inhabitants that were affected by Hurricane Maria.

CRW answers the call 621st CRG supports Hurricane Irma relief efforts
In response to Hurricane Irma, the 621st CRW’s 621st Contingency Response Group deployed a contingency response element consisting of nearly 50 members, which included aerial port, maintenance, and command post specialists to MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., where they arrived to support the Hurricane Irma relief efforts Sept. 12.
