April is Sexual Assault Awareness Prevention Month and the MacDill SAPR office has scheduled several awareness events across the base.

The goal of SAAPM is to increase public awareness about sexual violence and educate the community on how to prevent it. Sexual violence is a major public health, human rights and social justice issue.

The SAPR office is encouraging everyone to embrace the concept of, “Dignity and Respect” by participating in the many events sponsored by the MacDill SAPR office.

“We encourage all of Team MacDill to participate in any of the scheduled public events to raise awareness about sexual assault and prevention,” said 1st Lt. Clifton Alexander, 6th Air Mobility Wing deputy sexual assault response coordinator.

Sexual assault is defined by the Air Force as intentional sexual contact, characterized by use of force, physical threat or abuse of authority or when the victim does not or cannot consent. Sexual assault includes rape, nonconsensual sodomy, indecent assault or attempts to commit these acts.

Sexual assault can occur without regard to gender, spousal relationships, or age of victim.

Learn what constitutes a sexual assault, speak out against sexually inappropriate behaviors, and take action when you can prevent a sexual assault.

The 2019 SAAPM campaign is, "I Ask,” which champions the message that asking for consent is a healthy, normal and necessary part of everyday interaction. The “I Ask” theme focuses communication.
