Multiple sections within the 6th Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS) will relocate from buildings 48 and 52 to building 49, Oct. 24-28, 2016, at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.

The move is part of an initiative to centrally locate all LRS offices and functions. This new one-stop shop will include the, 6th LRS command section, the transportation management office, and logistics planning and supply.

“Our mission is to provide quality logistical support to sustain the worldwide mission of the 6th Air Mobility Wing, two war-fighting commands and our 31 mission partners,” said Senior Airman Ryan Delph, a transportation specialist with the 6th LRS. “Being in a central location gives us easier access to all sections, which not only allows for a more efficient way to accomplish the mission, but also makes in-processing with us a less tedious process for our customers.”

The 6th LRS was spread out through many locations on MacDill, and it made the processes of in-processing, out-processing, deployments and exercises lengthy. Customers would have to travel to multiple locations to complete each process, and the sections didn’t have easy access to one another to communicate.

The construction of this newly-renovated facility began in February of 2016.

"The 6th LRS led an initiative to right size several offices and functions that have downsized in manpower through the years,” said Jeffrey Billings, logistics manager with the 6th LRS. “The project consisted of consolidating [sections] like customer service functions, providing one service point for passenger travel.”

The installation deployment readiness cell, which includes the installation’s personnel readiness office, was also combined with passenger travel, giving all customers one stop for traveling, whether it is for a permanent change of station or a deployment.

Additionally, the deployment control center, the personnel deployment function (PDF) and the individual protective equipment section were united to give the customer a single service point. By connecting these sections, it brings the customers from mobility bag issue directly to the PDF.

“Having all these functions under one roof will allow our deploying members to flow in, get all required equipment, process through the PDF and receive all required briefings and manifesting,” said Billings. “Combining customer waiting areas, in addition to the dual use of the LRS auditorium and training rooms resulted in eliminating over 20,000 square feet of offices from two other facilities."

The renovations also eliminated facilities located in building 48, the old deployment processing
building, and building 52, the old transportation management office.

This phase of the relocation plan is scheduled to be complete by Oct. 31, 2016, and the 6th LRS agencies will open for business in the new facility at 8:00 a.m., the same day.
