6th Air Mobility Wing commander

6/16/2011 - MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- First things first: This week the U.S. Army commemorated its 236th Birthday. From all the men and women of MacDill AFB, "Happy Birthday," and thank you for your commitment to our great country. It's an honor serving with you.

What a great session of the Community Action Information Board we had last week. My thanks to Ms. Joan Craft, Chaplain "Spence" Spencer and all our base support agencies for showing me once again how ready they are to handle just about any problem you can throw at them. Be sure to take advantage of the many programs they offer at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, the Chapel, Mental Health and Family Advocacy especially if you or your family are facing a crisis.

We also reached a major milestone at MacDill in our efforts to build a stronger community for those who live and work here through the recent "Caring for People Forum." Kudos to the more than 60 Airmen and family members who spent the day focusing on the biggest issues facing military families today. We've already started working on the top-ten list they built-some on our own here at MacDill, others with the help of Headquarters Air Mobility Command and Headquarters Air Force. I'm committed to following through on the group's recommendations like bridging communication gaps affecting the spouses of our deployed members. I really appreciate everything the Airman & Family Readiness Center's staff did to make this first-ever event a success. Well done!

Nice work last week as well by Lt. Col. Brian Kehl and Ms. Brenda Holmes from the 6th Comptroller Squadron. Through strong advocacy backed by detailed inputs from across the base, they were able to acquire a sizable amount of funding for Comprehensive Airman Fitness related enhancements. You will soon see the results in significant improvements to the Health and the Wellness Center, Chapel, and the base library. Brian and Brenda, super job for pushing this across the goal line.

If you haven't met Col Matt Molineux, the new 6th Operations Group commander, I hope you'll get a chance to welcome him and his family to MacDill in the next few days. He brings a huge portfolio of expertise to the Ops Group along with an all-American family: his wife Tori, and their two children Ty, and Jordan.

Finally, I want you to know about the 6th Contracting Squadron's Airman 1st Class Matthew Mulhall. After earning honor graduate recognition at basic training, he quickly became a valuable here by organizing a first-rate retirement ceremony and completing 11 government purchase card audits.

That's the kind of drive I'm looking for!

I am proud to serve with each of you in the finest Air Mobility Wing on the face of the planet!
