Commentary by Col. Kelly Martin
6th Air Mobility Wing vice commander

11/15/2012 - MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Airmen of the 6th Air Mobility Wing, you heard your Command Chief, Chief Master Sgt. Victoria Gamble, say it at the pep rally last Thursday but it bears repeating, "Team MacDill, this is our time!"

On Nov. 12 we welcomed the first wave of inspectors to Tampa, and as of today that number has grown to more than 200 inspectors. First, I want to express how proud I am of everyone's hard work and determination, that Team MacDill will set the standard for the new Consolidated Unit Inspections across the Air Mobility Command. We are the first base to experience a full CUI and as with any new program there have been growing pains-- such as incorporating Management Internal Control Toolset as part of our self-inspection program. But your flexibility, professionalism, and commitment to excellence is why I'm confident the inspectors will see just what outstanding Airmen make up Team MacDill.

Twelve different functional areas are being inspected across the Wing, in addition to the base-wide programs like Records Management and operational security. This includes everything from inspecting our medical professionals who provide such excellent care, to evaluating our aircrew executing the KC-135 air refueling mission, to auditing quality of life programs and much more. A great deal of our success is directly tied to the superb total force integration teamwork between the 927th Air Refueling Wing and 6th AMW. No place is this more evident than on the flight line, as both Wings' maintainers work side-by-side putting the KC-135s in the air.

The council of deputies and I have watched as Airmen at every level worked together to prepare; and now as the inspection reaches its last few days, keep pushing hard and finish strong. Remember, this is our time.

Of course our mission never stops, even when preparing for an inspection. I want to take a moment and give a special shout out to one of the 6th Medical Group's mental health officers, Dr. Buddy Coard, psychologist from Public Health Services. He was deployed to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., last week in support of Hurricane Sandy relief operations, providing medical and behavioral health care to more than 500 people at shelters, as well as conducting epidemiologic work with the Center for Disease Control.
Clearly whether at home or deployed, the Airmen of Team MacDill make the mission happen.

This is our time!
