With the season of giving right around the corner, the season of charity and the Combined Federal Campaign kicked off at the base theater on MacDill Air Force base, Fla., Oct. 18, 2018.

The CFC is an annual window of opportunity to contribute to various local or global causes available to Federal and Congressional employees and retirees. For example, with Hurricane Michael’s recent devastating effects on Florida’s panhandle, those eligible to contribute could choose to donate to a cause that funds damage and relief efforts.

MacDill falls under the Sunshine CFC which operates 34 Florida counties, Puerto Rico as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“The minimum CFC donation is $1 but a little goes a long way,” said Jose Rodriguez, the Sunshine CFC deputy director. “Since its inception in 1961 under President Kennedy, the CFC has raised more than $8 billion.”

Rodriguez, who represented Sunshine CFC, introduced speakers from organizations around the Tampa Bay area who explained their cause and how contributions from military personnel can make an impact.

“Every individual can make a difference if they choose to,” said retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Neftali Rodriguez, the executive director of the Camaraderie Foundation. “You may never see the full extent of your contribution, but out there is a family that is thanking you for everything you do.”
