U.S. Air Force Col. Travis Edwards assumed command of the 6th Operations Group May 23, 2019, at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.

As the new 6th OG commander, Edwards takes over the responsibilities of planning and executing global aerial refueling, and specialized missions for U.S. allied and partner forces around the world.

“I am confident that we will be a successful team,” Edwards said. “I am confident because experience has shown me that when given clear guidance and the ability to exercise creativity to meet the objective, Airmen crush it every single time.”

Edwards joins Team MacDill following his tenure in U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart, Germany, where he served as the U.S. Transportation Command’s Senior Liaison Officer to U.S. European Command and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

During his welcoming speech, Edwards gave a special thank you to Lt. Col. Cory Clagett, who had been serving as the interim 6th OG commander and will assume the role as deputy commander to Edwards.

“I know your pedigree, your resume and the way you do business,” said Edwards. “I appreciate everything you have done over the last five months, and I look forward to working with you over the next year.”

Edwards finished his speech by addressing members of the 6th OG and said that he is most excited about leading Airmen and making a difference at MacDill.

“You chose to serve and that choice places you among an extraordinary group of people,” said Edwards. “Let’s continue to walk in excellence just as those who came before us did.”
