MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --

While ensuring 33 missions partners and over 40,000 people on MacDill have everything they need to succeed, the 6th Air Mobility Wing must also remain ready to accomplish their  own flying mission.

From Sept. 11 and 13, the 6th Air Mobility Wing and 927th Air Refueling Wing conducted an operational readiness exercise together to evaluate their individual unit’s wartime preparedness.

“We are involved in an exercise this week to ensure that our installation is prepared to respond to global acts of aggression,” said Col. Christine Berberick, commander of the 6th Medical Group.

During the three-day event, 6th AMW and 927th ARW were evaluated on their alert response time, ability to get air crews ready for flying conditions, in-air refueling capabilities and effectively communicating up the chain-of-command.

“We develop these type of exercises to evaluate mission requirements and ensure that individual unit training programs meet those standards,” said Mr. Jeff Sickler, the director of inspections assigned to the 6th AMW Inspector General.

This operational readiness exercise is a reminder that there is always a mission at hand – to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyber space. With that, MacDill needs to be ready at any given time to respond.
