    This year marks the 100th anniversary of the unit presently designated the 6th Air Mobility Wing. In 1944, the 6th Bombardment Group reactivated to support the air offensive against Japan. As part of the 20th Air Force, the Group’s B-29 Superfortress aircraft relocated to North Field on the small island of Tinian to strike major targets in Japan.

    The ability to adapt and react to a change in plans or process is key to high functioning operations like the 6th Maintenance Squadron. This idea is in full effect at MacDill, as Airmen are preparing a KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft for much more in-depth maintenance than they’ve performed before.
  • 153rd AW, 6th CES extinguish fires together

    Eighteen Air National Guard firefighters from the 153rd Airlift Wing in Cheyenne, Wyoming, visited MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, to participate in a joint-training exercise with 6th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighters, March 4-7. The joint firefighting training emphasized repelling and technical rescue skills, fire ground tactics, fire suppression, live-fire drills, vehicle extrication and aircraft familiarization.
