PROTECTING MACDILL INFRASTRUCTURE: THE “FLUSH SMART INITITAIVE”
Why It Matters: Maintaining our utility systems is a critical component of installation readiness. Blockages caused by improper disposal—often referred to as "fatbergs"—can lead to sewage backups into homes and workspaces and can ultimately damage the advanced treatment systems that keep our local environment safe. The "Can and Can’t" Guide: To keep MacDill flowing smoothly, please adhere to the following disposal guidelines:
NEVER Flush Safe to Flush
Baby wipes (Even those labeled “flushable”) Toilet paper
Paper towels and napkins Human waste
Grease, fats, or oils
Medications or hazardous chemicals
Feminine hygiene products
Dental floss and cotton swabs
Diapers
The "Flushable" Myth
Many commercial products are marketed as "flushable wipes." However, these materials do not break down like standard toilet paper. They often snag on pipe joints and pump impellers, causing systemic failures. If it isn’t toilet paper, it belongs in the trash. For more educational tips, videos, and a full list of items that should stay out of our drains, visit the FGUA Flush Smart Florida campaign page: https://www.fgua.com/flush-smart-florida-2/.

MACDILL SAFETY MESSAGE
Intermittent foggy weather conditions may cause reduced visibility during morning commute times as the weather warms up. Please slow down, use extra caution, and keep pedestrian and motor safety always in mind! Review these safety visual aids for more information:
STOP ILLEGAL DUMPING AND PROTECT MACDILL’S RESOURCES
MacDill AFB and the 6th Civil Engineering Squadron are raising awareness about a recent increase in improper and illegal dumping. Large items such as pallets, furniture, and chairs, as well as any hazardous waste, are not to be left in or around dumpsters. Instead, these items must be transported directly to the Bldg. 885 transfer station, which is located in the contractor village near the Tanker Way gate. It is also important to note that disposing of off-installation debris using MacDill's refuse system is not authorized and creates an avoidable expense for the 6th Air Refueling Wing, straining its budget.
- LOCATION: 6th CES Hqtrs, Bldg. 30, 7621 Hillsborough Loop Dr.
- POC: If you witness any illegal dumping or have disposal questions, please notify the 6th CES Service Contracts office at (813) 610-2071 or email: 6ces.refuse.cor@us.af.mil

RONE AWARENESS/SAFETY
Drones are not allowed on, or within 5 miles of, MacDill AFB. They can pose a variety of security dangers including espionage, smuggling, hacking, dangerous payload, and more. If you see a drone on MacDill AFB, observe it from a safe location and report it to Security Forces (813) 828-3322 immediately. For your safety, DO NOT approach drones. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) uses the DRONE acronym for their recommended procedures:
- Detect all available elements of the situation; attempt to locate and identify individuals operating the drone. (Look at windows/balconies/roof tops).
- Report incident to Security Forces on-base or the FAA Regional Operations Center (ROC) off-base.
- Security Forces: (813) 828-3322
- Florida is in the East ROC: (404) 305-5180, 9-ESA-ROC@faa.gov
- Observe the drone and maintain visibility of the device; look for damage or injured individuals. Note: Battery life is typically 20 to 30 minutes.
- Notice features: Identify the type of device (fixed-wing/multi-rotor), its size, shape, color, payload (i.e., video equipment), and activity of device.
- Execute appropriate police action: Maintain a safe environment for general public and first responders. Conduct a field interview, request proof of drone registration, and document ALL details of the event per the guidance provided by the FAA.
