The first day of the General Clarence Tinker K-8 School year is scheduled to begin Aug. 25, 2015, at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.

It was through the collaborative effort of MacDill and the Hillsborough County Public School district that the transition from elementary to kindergarten through eighth grade was made possible.

"From the superintendent to the leadership at all schools supporting MacDill, we have had very open lines of communications," said Frederick Fallman, 6th Mission Support Group deputy director. "The Tinker expansion has been one where all participants have seen it as a great effort to support military families."

Fallman is no stranger to the constant changes that come with being in the Armed Forces.

"My wife and I raised two children while on active duty and they attended 15 different schools," he said. "In my opinion, the middle school was the most critical for success."

With the expansion to K-8, MacDill families will be able to endure one less transition and benefit from the close proximity of the school to base housing.

"Tinker has a long history of being a highly rated elementary program and I expect the middle school grades will be equally successful," said Fallman.

Starting this new school year, middle school students will have the opportunity to take electives such as band, art and Spanish in addition to the HCPS curriculum.
