MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- MacDill will implement phase one of a multi-phase approach to reopen the base beginning Monday, May 4, 2020.
Base officials will begin cautiously relaxing specific guidelines in a slow and deliberate manner.
The base will remain in each phase for a minimum of 14 to 21 days, with the precise length of each phase determined by local medical conditions. Criteria considered when moving to the next phase will include the downward trend of regional COVID-19 cases with no evidence of a resurgence.
The plan’s phased approach, designed by medical experts, mission partners and base leadership, is in alignment with the Governor’s “Safe. Smart. Step-by-Step: Plan for Florida’s Recovery.”
“We believe conditions permit the start of a methodical and regimented track back to a new normal.” said Col. Stephen Snelson, 6th Air Refueling Wing commander. “I want to thank Team MacDill members for their patience, discipline and flexibility over the past few weeks as their actions have had a significant impact on containing the virus on base and in the community. This battle against Covid-19 is far from over, so please stay vigilant, follow social distancing guidelines and good hygiene practices.”
All previous guidance regarding health protection condition measures and the wear of face coverings remain in place at this time. Details of the planned actions for each phase and their impact will be released as we assess and adapt to reported local health conditions.
