MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week is a time to shine a light on those who serve our community and inspire us with their selfless giving.
This year’s dates are April 17-23 and MacDill is fortunate to continue a long-lasting tradition of being that bright light of volunteerism.
Our volunteers not only give back to our base but they directly support our mission, our people and our community. Their ongoing support helps highlight how MacDill is a true community of people.
We have all felt the ups and downs and disruptions that the COVID-19 pandemic has placed on our ability to interact and maintain routines.
Our volunteer community continued to adjust to those disruptions and found ways to continue to give back.
In true form, MacDill volunteers shined through the fog of uncertainty and continued inspiring us with their service.
MacDill AFB was fortunate to have 157 continually active volunteers. They provided direct support to 12 different base agencies and gave 26,627 volunteer hours. To put that in perspective, those hours saved our base more than $759,000 in estimated volunteer salaries.
We owe it to all these great people to take a moment of our time and thank them for theirs. Our challenge to you is to look for that shining light when you are around the base and thank those that inspire us through their volunteerism.
Remember, each time you go to the pharmacy, The Airman’s Attic, Retiree Activities Office, Chapel, Outdoor Rec, Golf Course, Library, Sabal Park, History office, Arts and Crafts, or speak with a Key Spouse – there is a shining light leading the way.
