It’s that time of year; the holidays are approaching, cooler temperatures signal the start of Fall and the Combined Federal Campaign is here again.

The CFC program provides a platform for federal government employees to donate to charities of their choosing, which includes more than 20,000 organizations at a local, national, and international level.

“The CFC was signed into law by President Kennedy and since 1961, we have raised 8.2 billion dollars,” said Fran O’Donnell, the zone supervisor for zone 22.

MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, has been a part of these efforts for many years. During the campaign season, MacDill runs a six-week funding period and sets fundraising goals. This year, MacDill’s campaign began Nov. 6 and will continue through Dec. 18.

In addition to financial contributions, a recent change this year allows donations through volunteer hours.

“We are able to now direct volunteer hours to organizations who need the help and can efficiently use those hours,” said Capt. Matthew Schuyler, a CFC campaign representative for the 6th Air Mobility Wing.

The volunteer hours donated during the campaign can be spread throughout 2018.

“We understand that this is a tough time as far as the recent hurricane relief efforts and upcoming holidays, so if you can’t donate money, you can always donate time," explained Master Sgt. Ebony Harding, a CFC campaign representative for the 6th AMW. “Whether it is a monetary or volunteer hour donation, it’s a way to give back to the community. It’s in our core values to do service before self.”

There are representatives within each squadron who will reach out to personnel within their sections. Interested personnel can donate online or through the paper format provided by their representative. Money donations can be taken out directly through payroll deductions or a retirement check.

Please contact your unit CFC representative for more information or to receive a paper CFC form. Paper donations will be accepted through Dec. 18.

To donate online, please go to www.sunshinecfc.org. Online donations will be accepted through Jan.12.
