Col. BJ Seoung Lim is the Commander, 6th Mission Support Group, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. He leads more than 1,700 military and civilian personnel assigned to six squadrons that provide installation support and expeditionary capabilities enabling global operations for U.S. Special Operations Command, U.S. Central Command, and 44 joint mission partners. He directs the plans, programs, and services supporting 658 facilities and a base population of more than 16,400 military and civilian personnel while providing installation support for more than 240,000 military retirees throughout the Tampa Bay region. Col. Lim oversees an annual operating budget exceeding $50 million, more than $475 million in military construction, approximately $9 million in service contracts, and nearly $140 million in annual retail operations.
Col. Lim was commissioned in July 2004 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Texas at San Antonio. A career logistics officer, he has commanded at the squadron level and led global sustainment operations across combatant commands, the Air Staff, and the Joint Staff. He has served in the United States, the Republic of Korea, Spain, and Kuwait, including a deployment as the Installation Logistics Officer at Camp LSA, Ali Al Salem Air Base. At U.S. Central Command, he served as a Distribution Staff Officer and Executive Assistant to the Commander before commanding the 438th Supply Chain Operations Squadron, where he led global supply chain operations supporting worldwide combat readiness.
Col. Lim has served in key staff and leadership positions across major command, Air Staff, Joint Staff, and Department of War secretariat levels. On the Air Staff, he served as Deputy Panel Chair for Logistics, shaping resource allocation and program requirements. On the Joint Staff, he led the Logistics and Sustainment Functional Capabilities Board as a Capabilities Branch Chief, advising senior military and civilian leaders on global enterprise logistics, materiel readiness, and joint logistics integration. A Joint Qualified Officer, Col. Lim holds master’s degrees in public administration and national security and strategic studies and is a graduate of the Naval Command College at the U.S. Naval War College. Prior to assuming command of the 6th Mission Support Group, he served as the Military Deputy to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Materiel Readiness within the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment at the Pentagon, Arlington, Va.
