With MacDill Air Force Base outdoor recreation members launching close to 1,200 boats annually, base servicemembers playing in year-round intramural sports programs, and 360 degrees worth of diverse water activities, 6th Air Mobility Wing Safety office wants to remind Team MacDill to practice risk management.

"Practice risk management in everything you do," said Lt. Col. Jason Wolf, 6 AMW Safety chief. "Personnel should refer to the ACT acronym."

Servicemembers should Assess the environment for risks, Consider options to limit risks, and Take appropriate action.

A-C-T can be used to evaluate situations that servicemembers are faced with to help them figure out whether or not it's a safe idea.

Warm months bring sports and other outside activities. Summer months can be very hot in the Tampa Bay Area, and servicemembers should be aware of the possibility of heat injuries.

According to the National Center for Sports Safety, heat exhaustion is a condition caused by water and electrolyte loss. The primary cause of symptoms is related to the amount of sodium chloride (salt) lost.

Summer weather brings more than just the heat. Summer is a time for boating, celebrating holidays and barbeques.

During the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day usual suspects found lurking are alcohol, inattention and overexertion. Servicemembers who let their guard down while entertaining friends in the backyard or enjoying outdoor activities with the family should keep safety in mind to prevent injuries.

The 101 Critical Days of Summer are rapidly approaching and 6 AMW safety has some events in store this year.

One of the big events is a visit from Bernie McGrenahan, one of today's top stand-up comedians in America. He has appeared on many late night television comedy specials and opens Las Vegas concerts for today's biggest stars. Now Bernie is turning his attention toward our Military forces with his 'HAPPY HOUR' Alcohol & Drug Prevention Program!

Bernie McGrenahan will be at Hangar 1 Apr. 28-29. The show time for Apr. 28 is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the show times for Apr. 29 are scheduled for 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
