The 6th Security Forces Squadron (SFS) and local police forces came together to participate in the third annual tactical competition, May 13, 2016 at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida

The special weapons and tactics teams (SWAT) were challenged with an obstacle course as a friendly competition for National Police Week, a week in which law enforcement officers, past and present, are honored.

"The tactical competition brings every law enforcement agency together for a good cause," said Tech. Sgt. Nicholas Jack, the operations support NCO in charge for the 6th SFS. "We raised money and donated it to a local law enforcement officer."

The donation will go to an officer with the Lakeland police department who is battling cancer.

During the event, the teams were tasked to complete three varied courses, which involved firing live rounds at targets, crawling under obstacles, carrying fuel cans and flipping a tire.

"The purpose of the course is to test the officers' mental and physical abilities," said Jason Atkinson, the officer in charge of the 6th SFS emergency services team. "The officers were required to maintain good marksmanship despite being physically exhausted."

Seven teams participated in this year's tactical competition with Lakeland SWAT finishing the competition with the fastest time, ending Clearwater SWAT's two-year winning streak.
