CUI prep pays off Published Nov. 29, 2012 By Senior Airman Rachelle Coleman 6th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Team MacDill recently underwent the largest multi-command unit inspection in Air Force history, passing with an "excellent." Both active duty and reserve wings, the 6th Air Mobility Wing and 927th Air Refueling Wing, achieved the rating. According to Larry Cresswell, 6th Air Mobility Wing chief of exercises and inspections, the wing prepared by reviewing past inspection results to ensure no errors were repeated, by becoming familiar with the Management Internal Control Toolset, and by running their self-assessment checklists every six months. The wing Exercise Evaluation Team is responsible for developing local exercises year-round to ensure success during an inspection. The self inspection program is another way each unit stays on track, gathers and analyzes information, and makes sure the job is being completed quickly and correctly. Each unit had the potential to be rated either "unsatisfactory," "marginal," "satisfactory," "excellent," or "outstanding." For the 6th Air Mobility Wing, hard work and professionalism paid off with three "outstanding", seven "excellent" and six "satisfactory" ratings across the wing. In addition, more than 200 individuals were recognized for their contributions to outstanding teams or individual programs. According to Master Sgt. Caren Price, NCO in charge of exercises and inspections, the CUI was developed by the Headquarters Air Force Inspector General to help shrink the inspection footprint, by reducing the types and frequency of various inspections. The CUI integrates into one, five-day period, several previously independent inspections, for example: the Compliance Inspection, the Unit Compliance Inspection, the Health Services Inspection, the Logistics Compliance Assessment Program, and the 20 AF Combat Capability Assessments. "It is unique in the fact that instead of having random inspections throughout the year we have all the inspections at once," said Price.
