The 2012 National Prayer Luncheon is scheduled for May 3 at the Surf's Edge Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets for the luncheon are $5. Tickets can be obtained from first sergeants, unit chaplains or at the base chapel.

The National Prayer Luncheon's roots can be traced back to 1953 and typically occur annually in February at bases across the United States. This year, the luncheon will coincide with the National Day of Prayer.

"What better way to join hands with all faiths than to come together on the National Day of Prayer, as 'One Nation Under God,' welcoming God's help for the issues of life that each of us face," said Chaplain (Capt.) Meoshia A. Sanders, 6th Air Mobility Wing protestant chaplain.

The guest speaker for this year's luncheon is Dave Roever, U.S. Navy Vietnam War veteran. He also serves as founder, chairman, and president of Roever Foundation which is based in Fort Worth, Texas. Roever and his wife, Brenda, are cofounders of Eagles Summit Ranch which has two facilities, one in Colorado and another in southern Texas. The focus of his message is centered around the theme: "One Nation Under God," which mimics the theme of the 61st Annual Observance of the National Day of Prayer.

Roever served in the United States Navy, Special Warfare Division, from 1968 - 1971. He is decorated with the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal with 1960 Device.

During his tour in Vietnam, Roever was burned beyond recognition when a phosphorous grenade he was poised to throw exploded in his hand. The ordeal left him hospitalized for 14 months. His survival and life are miraculous.

Because of his recovery from something so catastrophic, Roever has devoted his life traveling the globe, including war zones, to share his story and impart hope to military members in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. His goal is to not only restore hope but to provide keys for success and train today's wounded warriors to have meaningful futures.
