December 17, 2010, families at MacDill received an outpouring of gifts as a result of the commitment and generosity of "Elves" working in honor of the American Ex PoWs.

The Florida Chapter eleven of the Rolling Thunder has assumed the responsibility of continuing a 17 year tradition of hosting a Children's Christmas party at MacDill Air Force Base on behalf of the American Ex PoWs.

John and Fran Harrison of Florida Chapter Eleven lead the charge and ensured the tradition continues in honor of former Prisoners of War who desire to share some holiday cheer with the children and families of their comrades in arms. Many of the original members of the American Ex PoWs organization who began this tradition at MacDill have passed away or are in falling health and the honor of carrying the torch in their stead is no small thing for Rolling Thunder.

"It is the least we can do to show our appreciation to those who serve and defend this country" says Mrs. Harrison.

More than 30 families and 82 children were the recipients of the wealth of toys, stuffed animals, and cash contributed by the Rolling Thunder. In addition to gifts, the event was complete with food, games, and various other activities that made for a festive evening. Mr. and Mrs. Clause made an appearance for photo opportunities and each family left with an instant copy of their picture.

The year-round efforts of this organization culminate at this event where the faces of the children of MacDill are illuminated with excitement and the faces of the members of Rolling Thunder are equally illuminated with joy. It's an event that exemplifies the Spirit of Giving.

The Ex PoW's Children's Christmas party is sponsored by the Airman & Family Readiness Center.
