Local Airlift/Tanker Association chapter sponsors Air Force Ball Published Aug. 13, 2010 By Nick Stubbs 6th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Mark your calendars now. The Tony Jannus chapter of the Air Lift Tanker Association announced that it will host an Air Force Ball again this year. Scheduled for Saturday, Oct.2, the ball is open to anyone who wishes to attend. More information will be released as details are available. Joseph Winchester, president of the Tony Janus Chapter, said more information will be released in about a week, including who the keynote speaker will be, and the theme of this year's event. Ticket information will be available soon, as well, along with a web page dedicated to information about the 2010 ball. More information will be published in the Thunderbolt as details become available. The Air Force Ball has a long tradition, and is a chance to "celebrate the Air Force and it's service." Originally planned to coincide with the Air Forces' birthday, the event will follow it by a couple of weeks due to the anniversary falling on the weekend of an exercise at MacDill, said Mr. Winchester. "It still serves as a sort of birthday recognition," Mr. Wincherster said of the ball, "even though the timing had to be changed." Mr. Winchester said the ball typically is attended by a mix of Airmen, members of other services, retired military members, DoD empoloyees, and members of the public with an interest. Volunteers to help plan and organize the ball also are needed. Anyone interested in helping with the event, please contact Mr. Winchester at (586) 201-0729. The event also helps increase interest and awareness of the Airlift/Tanker Association and the Tony Janus Chapter, said Mr. Winchester, who added that the group is always looking for new members.
