Col. Larry Martin, 6th Air Mobility Wing Commander, was presented a check from Tampa Electric Company for $59,750.00 for on-base energy conservation measures Sept. 2.

"I speak on behalf of TECO when I say this is such a great accomplishment," said Bruce Nazissenfeld, TECO representative. "We are so proud to have MacDill AFB on our home team."

Throughout the presentation Mr. Nazissenfeld praised MacDill Air Force Base for demonstrating leadership during its energy conservation measures.

MacDill AFB recently teamed up with Johnson Controls and developed an Energy Savings Performance contract to make improvements to base facilities. The combined efforts of MacDill and Johnson Controls implemented a lighting retrofit project that is estimated to save approximately $1.2 million in annual energy costs.

Energy conservation measures included air-cooled chiller replacements in eight buildings, energy-efficient lighting upgrades in 128 buildings, water conservation in 93 buildings, and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system replacements in 16 buildings. These measures will save 537 kilowatts of energy per year, enough to power 135 average size homes for one month. Also, this project will result in a reduction of more than 18 million pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

"I am very proud and appreciative of all the hard work done to take these conservation measures," said Colonel Martin during the presentation. "It is always good working with TECO."
