At 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, Team MacDill will bid farewell to an iconic military treatment facility that has served the base populous for over fifty years. Although it is sad to say goodbye to this facility, the staff of the 6th Medical Group is eager to share the excitement surrounding the opening of our new clinic.

Initial plans for the new facility began seven years ago and construction began on the 254,000-square-foot, $87 million facility in the fall of 2007.

"Our patients are going to love the new facility," said 6th Medical Group commander, Col. Dennis Beatty. "We have worked very hard to continue providing the service our beneficiaries have come to expect and deserve."

Another benefit of the new facility is having all medical services under one roof; the current medical campus consists of 24 buildings spread around the base. The new clinic is located close to other facilities frequented by the base populous, to include the Base Exchange, the Commissary, the gas station, Burger King and the PharmaCARE, which is conveniently located just north of the new facility.

Beneficiaries have will now have access to state-of-the-art services. The new facility will have a Phillips 1.5 Tesla MRI, a GE CT Scanner, a GE digital mammography and digital dental treatment rooms to name just a few. This facility, along with award winning staff, will provide world-class health care service.

In all, close to $15 million dollars was spent outfitting the new clinic to ensure the MacDill family receives the best care.
