Gen. Arthur Lichte said he was quite impressed with the wing's contributions to the air mobility mission. "MacDill Airmen are true warriors in the Global War on Terror. They are absolutely dedicated to the principles which make our country free," said General Lichte. "Their families make daily personal sacrifices in order to serve the nation." AMC has transferred more than 7 billion pounds of fuel since September 2001, and continues to transfer about 4 million pounds of fuel per day primarily in support of the Global War on Terror. In addition to the KC-135 mission, the general noted the accomplishments of MacDill's other support aircraft. "The operational support airlift crews here have done an outstanding job, efficiently and effectively transporting our senior leaders all over the globe," he said. General Lichte said he had numerous objectives for his visits to bases throughout the command. "I intend to meet with the AMC Airmen who make the mission possible, spread the great news about the air mobility mission and assess the morale and needs of each AMC base." After an extensive tour of base facilities, the general said he was very pleased with the professionalism and enthusiasm of the Airmen he met. "The base appearance is fantastic, and the Airmen here at MacDill are very proud of what they are doing, and it shows." During the visit, he asked for feedback on the training the Airmen at MacDill receive. "Training our Airmen to be the best, and ensuring none are left behind, helps to strengthen the Air Force's capabilities," he said. General Lichte also emphasized the need for recapitalizing and modernizing our Air, Space and Cyberspace Systems, adding that the KC-X is the Air Force's primary acquisition priority. "Acquiring the KC-Xs will enable the Joint Forces to continue to project combat capability anytime, anywhere," said General Lichte. The general left with a positive impression of MacDill and called it a great place to train and develop today's Airmen as well as tomorrow's.
