U.S. Air Force Col. Edward Szczepanik, 6th Air Refueling Wing commander, Col. James Long, 6th ARW deputy commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Raun Howell, 6th ARW command chief, hold up the letter “C” before it is installed on Hangar 3 at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, June 6, 2025. The previous letter was blown off the hangar during Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 hurricane that struck the region in September 2024. Since then, extensive repairs have been completed, with the recent restoration of the iconic MacDill AFB sign symbolizing the base’s recovery from the hurricanes.
