Rachel Platten, singer and songwriter of "Fight Song," visited MacDill Air Force Base, Florida on Dec. 14, 2015, as part of her "Stand by the Troops" holiday season campaign.

"Men and women of the military give so much every day," stated Platten. "This is my way of giving back."

During her tour, Platten visited and read to children from Tinker K-8 who have a deployed parent, observed a military working dog demonstration, and performed at the 6th Medical Group.

Early in Platten's musical journey, she sang at the bedside of hospital patients while working with numerous charities, which is why she chose to sing at the 6th MDG during her visit.

"I loved being here," said Platten. "I get to meet incredible people every day through what I do, but today was really special. It was a real honor to play for people who defend our country."

Platten sang her two hit songs, "Stand By You" and "Fight Song" to Airmen and their families visiting and working at the 6th MDG.

After her performance, Platten was coined by Col. Kevin Franke, commander of the 6th MDG.

"It was a great opportunity For Team MacDill to have a rising musical star recognize our service members for all that we do," said Franke.
