The 6th Operations Support Squadron outperformed 81 different units worldwide to receive the Air Mobility Command 2015 Fuel Efficiency Operations Team of the Year award, Dec. 3, 2015, during the AMC Phoenix Rally 2015.

The award was presented to Col. Daniel Tulley, commander of the 6th Air Mobility Wing, by Gen. Carlton D. Everhart, commander of AMC, on behalf of the members of this outstanding team for the excellence exuded this year.

"I am honored to be recognized as part of a great team that is focused on ensuring our units are continuing to look for ways to be more efficient," said David Nelson, a lead air operations specialist assigned to the 6th OSS and award recipient. "Our team of dedicated professionals across multiple units ensured that we are as fuel efficient as possible with our aircraft and minimize unnecessary man-hours, while maintaining our readiness and war fighting capabilities."

After the creation of the Military Air Force (MAF) Fuel Efficiency Program in 2008, the AMC Aviation Fuel Efficiency Office was chartered by Lt. Gen. Vern M. Findley II, vice commander of AMC, to develop the tools, processes, metrics, and organizational interfaces that would enable rapid achievement with industry leaders to analyze, propose and lead implementation of aviation fuel conservation improvements within the command and throughout the MAF, while maximizing operational effectiveness.

According to Col. Brent Baysinger, fuel efficiency division deputy for AMC, the command is continuously working toward meeting these efficiency goals, while still maintaining war fighting effectiveness and in this time of budgetary contraction, that is not an easy mark to meet.

"Every day the aircrews and maintainers of Air Mobility Command work to accomplish the mission while still garnering efficiencies," said Baysinger.  "Without their dedication to saving the taxpayer money, we couldn't make a dent in our goals. So it's those professionals who conduct the mission every day, and they come up with some great ideas to save fuel."

MacDill has contributed to this success by excelling in the following areas:  savings and efficiencies achieved while contributing to culture change and impacting the MAF's mission.

As a result, this is the second time MacDill AFB has received an award for fuel efficiency. In 2013 they were awarded the Small Team Fuel Efficiency Award.

"It feels good to be recognized for our accomplishments," expressed Capt. Kaylyn Leibrand, a pilot assigned to the 91st Air Refueling Squadron and award recipient. "We are meeting the fuel savings/efficiency objectives set forth, while still executing the mission and achieving rapid global mobility."
