The MilitaryChildcare.com program will go live at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, on Oct. 21, 2015. MacDill is one of eight bases to be a part of the second phase of the Air Force wide program initiative.

MilitaryChildCare.com (MCC) is a Department of Defense website for military families seeking childcare, and provides access to comprehensive information on military-operated and military-subsidized childcare options worldwide.

"This is a nice program because not only does it streamline the process for the childcare programs and faculty members, but it also makes it easier on the parents," said Susan Long, 6th Force Support Squadron Airmen and Family Service flight chief.

The MCC site will cover Family Child Care programs, the three child development centers and school age childcare needs at MacDill. The site will enhance customer support, but will not replace personal communication with families.

"There will still be a lot of one-on-one," stated Long. "We will still be here to assist them because we sometimes have to deal with emergency situations and those are handled on a case by case basis."

The benefits of this program will enable families to search for and request care, manage their requests, and update their profile online. It will also expedite childcare placement through a standardized request process and waitlist management tools.

Jane Cook, 6th FSS resource and referral, explained that this site will relieve the parents of the stressor of waiting until they arrive on the installation to begin registering their child for care. Once the parents create a profile, they will receive approximate wait times and availability of each program they are interested in.

Ultimately, MCC will make it easier for families to find the childcare they need.

"The site will provide detailed descriptions of the various childcare programs offered at MacDill, as well as photographs of the facilities for parents who are not currently on station and able to preview the facilities firsthand," commented Long.
