Go Pink "Walk Your Buns Off" Pedometer 4-week Challenge is scheduled to get people moving and promote breast cancer awareness at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, Oct. 5- Nov. 1.

Anyone with base access can participate, including retired military, civilian personnel and dependents.

Registration for the event begins Sept. 22 at the Health and Wellness Center.
The Challenge is simple. Once signed up, the participant must track their steps with a complimentary pedometer from the HAWC or one from home.

The HAWC also provides a converter sheet which calculates the equivalent number of steps for various activities. For example, if a person plays basketball, they would track the amount of time they played and then convert it into steps.

"An ongoing Nurses' Health Study shows that physical activity of three hours or more, which includes walking, can reduce the risk of breast cancer," explained Susan Haley, 6th Aerospace Medicine Squadron health promotion dietitian.

Each week, participants are encouraged to bring their log into the HAWC and spin for a weekly prize.

At the end of the challenge, participants must turn in their log to the HAWC and fill out a short survey in order to receive their final prize.
