The 6th Force Support Squadron strives to take care of approximately 156,409 personnel that make up the MacDill community through the various programs they offer at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.

Among the numerous programs is the Commercial Sponsorship Program; which is a means for corporations to communicate with target markets through the use of special events that involve audiences, spectators or participants in recreational or cultural pursuits.

According to Air Force Instruction 34-108, Commercial Sponsorship is defined as "the act of providing assistance, funding, goods, equipment (including fixed assets), or services to a Morale, Welfare and Recreational Program(s) and/or event(s) by an individual, agency, association, company or corporation, or other entity (sponsor) for a specific (limited) period of time in return for public recognition or advertising promotions."

"The Force Support Squadron is a vital source for businesses to promote or advertise at MacDill Air Force Base," explained David Engle, 6th FSS commercial sponsorship coordinator. "It is important for businesses to use this program because not only does it build a partnership, but it also permits FSS to provide more support in completing the mission."

As you walk around many big events here at MacDill, there are big white or blue tents set up with tables and business representatives. That is the Commercial Sponsorship Program in action and full effect.

Through the program, outside corporations are allowed to underwrite FSS events via money, goods and/or services or a combination of the three in exchange for stipulated marketing, public relations and merchandising campaigns. In other words, it allows businesses from the local community to reach out and build partnerships with the military.

"It is important for people to understand that this program helps raise money in support of MWR programs to offer a better quality of life for Airmen and enable companies that accommodate military, the venue to communicate that support," Expressed Engle.

Overall, the Commercial Sponsorship Program is among the many programs in place to support the wing's vision of "Deliberate Excellence" through building teamwork and leveraging partnerships.
