"Blue 42, blue 42, set, hike," echoed through the air as MacDill's youth flag football teams took to the field at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, Jan. 10, 2015. Eighty children from ages five through 15 are participating in the youth program's inaugural flag football season.

"We're really excited to be able to offer the best flag football league not just here on MacDill, but in Tampa," explained Harold Hug, director of youth programs. "We really do try to go above and beyond for these kids."

The youth program ensures the fields are maintained before every Saturday game, as well as paints the field, places the end zone pylons and trains referees to officiate the games.

"We're dedicated to providing a first rate, wholesome and safe youth program to the MacDill AFB community," said Hug. "In addition to flag football, we offer co-ed soccer, basketball, baseball, and multiple summer sports camps."

On average, the youth programs have anywhere from 80 through 200 participants and has room to grow for new kids.
