As we drive around MacDill Air Force Base, Florida we see gate construction to improve traffic. With these new additions, new traffic lights will be put up to relieve traffic congestion and minimize traffic accidents.

The new traffic lights will be placed at two intersections on Bayshore Boulevard. The first traffic light will be placed at the intersection of Florida Keys Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard and the second traffic light will be placed at the intersection of SOCOM Memorial Drive and Bayshore Boulevard.

Florida Keys is the main east-west route and Bayshore is a major north-south route on MacDill. With the new five-story visiting quarters and a Joint Special Operations University currently under construction, traffic will increase when the buildings are operational.

There is also a project in place that extends Zemke Avenue to Bayshore Boulevard.  This project will alter the intersection of Tampa Point Boulevard with Bayshore Boulevard to make Tampa Point Boulevard south bound only. Increased traffic along SOCOM Memorial Drive will require a light.

The traffic light on Florida Keys Avenue is currently operational and depending on funding, the SOCOM Memorial Drive lights could start construction by January 2015 and become operational by June 2015.
