The construction on hanger one began on August 19, 2013 and is estimated to be completed April 2, 2014. The hangar was first built in 1941 and has reached its life expectancy of 70 years.

The 1940's era exterior siding, windows and doors will be replaced due to extensive deterioration that can endanger interior assets as well as present safety issues. Other improvements include pavement repairs, facility reroof, and facility painting.

Reconstruction for hangar one started when the 6th Civil Engineering Squadron initiated the paper work and began planning a proposed project. 6th CES leadership reviewed the plans, design documents and cost estimations. After everything was finalized schedules were established and inspections were performed along the way.

Hangar one's upgrades will allow the building to stand and endure another life expectancy of 70 years. Members of Team MacDill will be able to complete the mission in a safe environment. In time all five hangars will go under reconstruction and get updated.
