What is new at Surf's Edge

The Surf's Edge Club has re-opened. Kicking off the celebration was a ribbon cutting ceremony, opening remarks and festivities, Nov. 20, 2013 at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

After the five-month renovation, the club features many new updates. The facelift includes refinished walls and new floors for the ballroom, patio and heritage room, and an updated ceiling with programmable color-changing lights. The existing restrooms were renovated or expanded.

"The club's been beautified and renovated," said Col. Scott DeThomas, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander. "We expect nothing but great things to come."

A new audiovisual systems, patio furniture and high-definition flat screen TVs were also installed inside Boomers Bar.

"The project greatly restored and enhanced the appearance and ambiance of the club," said Michael Pardue, 6th Force Support Squadron sustainment services flight chief.

The grand re-opening featured complimentary cuisine, a live band, billiards and a giveaway.

DeThomas also thanked all who came out to celebrate, to include approximately 30 newly inducted honorary commanders, and retirees who visit the Tampa Bay area each winter.
