The Retiree Activities Office will continue the tax assistance program for the remainder
of the year in order to accommodate late filers and those who need amendments for
returns already filed. Walk-in service will be provided Tuesdays and Thursdays from10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments will be available Fridays and can be obtained at 828-4555.

The deadline to file a return for personnel returning from a combat zone is extended to 180 days after the last day they were in the zone or the last day of any continuous
hospitalization for injury from service in a combat zone. These rules also apply to personnel deployed outside the United States while participating in a designated contingency operation.

The Internal Revenue Service will accept electronic returns until Oct. 15. After that date, mail-in returns will be required. The income tax assistance program is sponsored by the Staff Judge Advocate's office with work performed by RAO tax preparers trained and certified by the IRS. The RAO is located in Building 925, immediately west of the Commissary.
