MacDill Coalition Internatioal Night

Gemma Mugie from Holland samples a rare delectable called Maatjes Harring, during Coalition International night held here in Hangar 1 Dec. 16. Maatjes Harring consists of the fish raw herring with onions on top. It is tradition to take the herring by the tail and toss it whole down your throat, with your head tilted back. Military and family members from 63 nations were on hand for Coalition International Night, held here Wednesday. This year’s event marks the 5th anniversary of the annual tradition that allows military members and families to become more familiar with various native cuisines, customs and dress accompanied by the spirit of learning and sharing all around. During this event many Central Command Coalition members and families graciously volunteered to cook some of their countries favorite or famous cuisines to share. The event ended with commander United States Central Command General David Howell Petraeus giving a thank you speech to all those who came out.
