Periodic Inspection at MacDill
Airman 1st Class David Halais, 6th Maintenance Squadron Crew Chief screw the aircraft panels back into place onto a landing gear door located on the nose of a KC135 aircraft from Andrews AFB, Va. here, Dec. 11 in Hangar two. The KC135 has been here a week for a periodic inspection after being grounded for two months at Andrews due to shortage of personnel. The aircraft was granted a time flight to MacDill in order to have the periodic inspection conducted faster, saving time and using manpower efficiently, all part of the Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century strategy. A KC135 receives two periodic inspections every five years. This inspection was completed in five days compared to three weeks with teamwork of 24 Airmen: 16 active duty from MacDill, four Reserve from the 927th Air Refueling Wing and four Airmen from Andrews.
