Remembering 1st Lt. Joseph D. Helton
Airmen from the 6th Security Forces Squadron and Team MacDill render honors during the 12th annual Lt. "Helton Haul" 5K run at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, Sept. 8, 2021. Named for Air Force 1st Lt. Joseph D. Helton, a security forces officer assigned to the 6th SFS, who died Sept. 8, 2009, near Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In the weeks and months following that tragic day, the security forces squadron building was dedicated in his name. Helton Hall stands as a tribute to the sacrifice he made for his Airmen, and they are continually reminded of the story of 1st Lt. Helton. (U.S. Air Force photo)
