Volunteers step up to improve MacDill’s shoreline

Volunteers install oyster reef balls along the shoreline at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, Dec. 2, 2021. The members loaded oyster reef balls, each weighing between 150 to 200 pounds, off of trailers and placed them into the water surrounding the base as part of a MacDill initiative to help the environment. They help the environment by reducing erosion and improving coastal resiliency, providing an attachment surface for oysters to grow on which will filter the water, and providing habitat for numerous species of fish and wildlife (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Joshua Hastings)
