MACDILL AFB, Fla. - MacDill's satellite outpatient medical clinic, currently in Brandon, Florida, will relocate to a new, larger facility in April to better serve more than 95,000 regional joint service members, families and retirees.
The medical clinic’s new location will be at 9210 King Palm Drive in Tampa.
The Brandon clinic currently serves 750 customers and fills more than 2,000 prescriptions weekly, lessening the demand for MacDill's main medical clinic. The satellite clinic is a popular alternative for beneficiaries who live in the surrounding area including Brandon and Riverview, but has to modernize to keep up with the increased demand for its services.
“We are establishing a new clinic to increase space,” said Maj. Melodie Cross, the 6th Medical Support Squadron medical logistics flight commander. "By doubling the square footage from 16,000 square feet to over 30,000, we are giving our providers and patients the best care possible, expanding our support capabilities in pharmacy, diagnostic imaging and medical administration.
The increased floor space will provide a more fluid environment and a more pleasant experience by giving each clinical area more space to provide care to our patients,” said Cross.
In addition to the increased space, the Airmen assigned to the new clinic can look forward to some quality of life improvements that will enhance their ability to maintain patient care and ensure full spectrum readiness for Tampa's military community.
"With the new building comes new equipment," explained Airman 1st Class Daniel Kirwa, a 6th Medical Operations Support Squadron aerospace medical technician. "These new changes are expected to improve efficiency and flexibility."
Having an option closer to home allows dozens of joint service units on MacDill to maximize the percentage of their force on deployable status while saving their families time from a lengthy commute. New and old customers alike can expect a refreshed environment, with modernized equipment where they can worry less about fitting into the waiting room and focus more on health and wellness.
“The Brandon clinic provides our beneficiaries the availability of an outpatient clinic in close proximity to their community,” said Cross. “It offers the majority of the same services that the MacDill clinic provides but without the lengthy commute to base.”
The clinic offers primary and specialty care in family health, internal medicine, pediatrics, women's health and behavioral health.
