The Exceptional Family Member Programs (EFMP) is a Department of Defense program offered by all branches of the military. It is a mandatory enrollment program for all active duty service members who have a family member with special needs.

EFMP family support coordinators at MacDill provide services to all service members of any branch of the military. We also support civilians, retirees and contractors who have dependents with special needs.

Here are a few updates on where we are today and some information on how MacDill AFB families are supported.

EFMP Key Points for MacDill AFB families

  • We now have two new EFMP Family Support (FS) coordinators: Ruthy Srun (rut_anne.srun.2@us.af.mil) and Angela Ocampo (angela.ocampo@us.af.mil). We are ready to help!
  • EFMP-Medical and EFMP-Family Support ALL sponsors and families of ANY branch of service. Out EFMP events, programs and trainings are purple.
  • EFMP-FS works with sister service EFMP Coordinators if needed in order to provide comprehensive resources.
  • If you are a sister service family, reach out to your local EFMP-FS coordinator; we don’t automatically get your information like we do for the Air Force.
  • EFMP-Assignments is the only section that is service specific and each branch must reach out to their contact. If you need that information, contact your EFMP-FS coordinators.

New in EFMP!

  • At the Headquarters Air Force level, EFMP family support, medical and assignments are in the same directorate. This helps expedite resolutions when there are cases that need to be coordinated. They are also in the process of adding representatives for: respite care, legal and special education advocacy.
  • Military OneSource: Has various tools like EFMP & ME, the EFMP OSD newsletter, special needs consultations and organizational products: https://www.militaryonesource.mil/family-relationships/special-needs.
  • MyVector Medical Provider Trend Tool: Sponsors can now view travel recommendation trends (for the past 2 years) based on location, diagnosis, availability of care, etc. in the past two years. While it is not guaranteed that your EFMP screening will have the same outcome, it is a good planning tool: https://myvector.us.af.mil/myvector/Home
  • Automated Travel Screening: The Department of the Air Force has implemented this process to simplify required medical screening before a PCS. Members selected for an assignment will automatically receive an email with a link to MyVector to begin the screening process. This tool also facilitates future PCSs by saving data but also allowing for updates as conditions change. What can MacDill AFB EFMP families do to maximize the program’s benefits?

  • Stay connected to other families by joining the MacDill AFB EFMP Facebook group, joining our email distribution list, and attending events, workshops, connect groups we offer. Maybe you don’t need the support, but another family might.
  • Participate in events. We offer over 40 events and trainings per year. All of our events and services are FREE. Don’t miss out – and we don’t care what the diagnosis are, you can join us. You want a specific event or camp? Let us know.
  • Use your resources! We can partner with families to create family needs assessments, service plans, provide personal financial counseling and more.
  • Take advantage of special programs like respite care (in-your home childcare) and Tricare ECHO. Both of these programs have eligibility criteria, but they are available for EFMP families.
