MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Junior-enlisted dormitory residents at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida came together to enjoy the Dorm Summer Bash at MacDill beach, July 27, 2016.
MacDill’s First Sergeants Council and 5/6 Council hosted the annual event.
Those in attendance were provided a catered meal, an array of games, and an opportunity to dunk their first sergeants and fellow Airmen in a dunk tank.
“We hold events like this for the dorm residents because they’re away from home,” said Senior Master Sgt. Lakesha Washington, first sergeant assigned to the 6th Security Forces Squadron. “They don’t get the same family environment like the Airmen who live off base.”
Washington explained the Summer Bash enables Airmen to take a little time for themselves.
“Due to the high operations tempo at MacDill, the Summer Bash helps raise morale by giving the Airmen an opportunity to relax and have some fun,” said Washington.
The First Sergeants Council holds a summer event every year for the dorm residents.
“This is definitely a morale booster,” said Airman Noah Mclean, an infrastructure technician assigned to the 6th Communications Squadron. “Without the dorm bash, today would just be a normal day of work.”
Throughout the event, MacDill’s first sergeants reached out to the Airmen and shared in the fun.
“This may be the first time the Airmen have been away from home,” said Washington. “We want to show them that leadership genuinely cares about them.”
