MacDill's flying squadrons honor 9/11 victims during ruck march
U.S. Air Force Col. Jonathan Burdick, 6th Operations Group commander, speaks with Airmen assigned to the 91st and 50th Air Refueling Squadron's prior to a 9/11 memorial ruck at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, Sept. 9, 2022. Burdick shared his memories involving the events of 9/11, where he served as a copilot during a deployment to Saudi Arabia. He recalled watching the events unfold on live television, huddled in the dayroom, filled with his fellow Airmen. Burdick emphasized that he remembered coming together as a deployed squadron and how the team returned to a fundamentally changed homeland. In closing, Burdick shared that on this day, the squadrons walk for those who can’t, those that reside in each person’s memories and those who have inspired the next generation to serve.
