  • 33rd FW hosts AIM HIGH Flight Academy students

    The 33rd Fighter Wing hosted 24 students, ages 16-20, as part of the Air Force Recruiting Service’s, Detachment 1 AIM HIGH Flight Academy program June 7-8 at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The AHFA provides an opportunity for students to gain hands-on flying training from experienced aviators and U.S. Air Force mentors. These instructors and mentors also provide them with information about aviation careers, flying opportunities and share their experiences as Air Force aviators.

    Since the beginning of 2021, Tech. Sgt. Steven Parina, a 6th Maintenance Squadron aircraft fuel systems repair technician, has been battling with leukemia in a different way. Parina’s 23-month-old daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, sparking a raised interest and awareness of what his life would become over the next several years.

    Paintings and artwork immortalized on the nose of an aircraft have been a part of military heritage dating back more than 100 years. Each artwork is different, sometimes representing an extravagant squadron insignia, an old-fashioned “pin-up” girl, or can even be a beast-like creature. These artworks began with a practical reason of identifying friendly units, but later evolved into something able to evoke memories of peaceful times, of home and could serve as a form of morale and espirit de corps.
