Protecting children from insect bites
It’s that time of year where insects and their pesky bites are increasing! Children are especially susceptible, but with good prevention, we can minimize the irritation these pests cause. One of the most effective prevention methods is the use of insect repellents containing DEET.

Traumatic brain injury awareness, prevention
According to the Defense Health Agency Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence, “a TBI is a blow or jolt to the head that disrupts the normal function of the brain, and depending on severity, can have long lasting effects on anyone who experiences one.” More than 430,000 service members have been diagnosed with a first-time TBI since 2000. The most common form of TBI in the military is mild, and is also known as a concussion.

Team MacDill Airmen deploy to the Middle East
Airmen assigned to MacDill Air Force Base departed MacDill for a deployment to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar in support of U.S. Air Forces Central, which delivers dominant coalition air power to secure and stabilize the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

Public health remains an integral part of daily operations
April 5-11 is National Public Health Week, which highlights the contributions of preventive medicine professionals. Our MacDill Public Health team has the unique challenge of providing force health and community health support to our joint force via a variety of programs. Many do not know that the public health team, like most of our teams, is integrated into many of MacDill’s daily operations behind the scenes.

MacDill's EFMP ready to help those in need
The Exceptional Family Member Program is designed to assist family members who have physical, emotional, developmental or intellectual needs. EFMP is also a Department of Defense mandated enrollment program that utilizes an all-inclusive approach to coordinating educational, medical, housing and personnel services to help any service members with families that have special needs.
