6th Air Refueling Wing talks about pressing, modern subjects in “Lead Conversations"
Whether it is about suicide, diversity and inclusion or just overcoming adversity, MacDill’s 6th Air Refueling Wing leadership team wants to talk about these subjects to create meaningful change. “Our Air Force leaders obviously recognize the importance of these topics,” said Col. Benjamin Jonsson, the 6th ARW commander. “We need to have these conversations because when we are united and strong together, we are better Airmen and more effective in performing the mission.”

91st Air Refueling Squadron revitalizes heritage room
While some units are pleased with having a break room to have lunch, the 91st Air Refueling Squadron takes pride in going above and beyond for their “heritage room.” The 91st ARS heritage room will have newly refurbished tables, reupholstered chairs, frost-tinted front doors, a custom wood-finished countertop, a built-in wall chalkboard with repainted walls and flooring in a massive renovation.

Right place, right time: Airman saves lives
March 7, 2020, started off as a long day, coming home from working during the Nuclear Operational Readiness Exercise, Tech. Sgt. Lowery was on his way southbound over the Alafia Bridge in East Tampa. As he drove closer to the base of the bridge, a car and motorcycle collided, and for the next two hours, Lowery’s security forces medical training and prior emergency medical technician experience would help him with assisting in his first-ever witnessed accident.

Cramped spaces and fuel vapors: MacDill “Tank Divers”
Tucked away behind U.S. Central Command and MacDill Air Force Base, Florida’s traditional hangars lies a hangar originally built to house fighter jets. On a given day, peeking out of that hangar will sit a KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft seemingly out of place in the considerably smaller maintenance shop, but surely, it’s in the right hands.

Fighting the fires of the future
MacDill’s first-ever Future Firefighters Club of America, is a Youth Center program that could change a child’s life forever. After six months of planning, MacDill’s 6th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Emergency Services Flight firefighters also joined the program to personally teach MacDill’s youth over the course of the year on different aspects of firefighting.

Preparation is key to surviving hurricane season
Hurricane season (June 1 – Nov. 30) is once again upon us, and after Hurricane Michael devastated Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida in 2018, the Office of Emergency Management, 6th Civil Engineer Squadron further stresses the importance of hurricane preparedness to avert crisis at MacDill AFB. "I encourage all Team MacDill personnel to develop a family emergency plan, put together a disaster supply kit and know if you live in a hurricane evacuation zone." said Mark Martinez, the Installation Emergency Manager.

As the NCO in charge of MacDill SERE operations in 2018, Tech. Sgt. Jesse Soboleski, managed fifteen overseas training missions, preparing 38 joint, NATO units in SERE strategies.

6th CONS small business specialist wins 2018 SAF award
For the 6th Air Mobility Wing at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, the small business program has a dedicated department led by the 6th Contracting Squadron small business specialist, Lilliam Maldonado-Gutierrez. To recognize her outstanding work between Oct. 1, 2017 and Sept. 30, 2018, she was awarded the Secretary of the Air Force 2018 Special Achievement Award.

MacDill Airman to attend USAFA prep school
Each year, the United States Air Force Academy selects 240 young men and women for its preparatory school to earn a spot at their prestigious academy. Airman 1st Class Antonio Cruz, a 6th Operations Support Squadron weather forecaster from MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, was one of those selected this year to attend USAFA’s preparatory school in July.
