  • Team MacDill executes total force readiness exercise

    The 6th Air Mobility Wing and the 927th Air Refueling Wing conducted a readiness exercise here Feb. 8-10. The total force team was tasked to simulate a short-notice deployment, testing its ability to rapidly deploy cargo and personnel, and expeditiously launch aircraft during a 72-hour training scenario.
  • Active-shooter exercise strengthens Team MacDill’s readiness, resiliency

    Team MacDill participated in an installation-wide active-shooter exercise here Jan. 23, 2019, to train and evaluate the base’s emergency response and preparedness. According to Jeffrey Sickler, 6th Air Mobility Wing director of inspections, this type of training is necessary to increase awareness for everyone at Team MacDill. “Conducting an active shooter exercise provides commanders with validation that training, checklists and appropriate actions are effectively executed if it were an actual event,” said Sickler. “The beginning of the year coincides with a large influx of retirees to the base so this exercise provides them the opportunity to participate, whether residing at the FamCamp or using any of the installation’s services.”

  • Cloud Services on the Way to MacDill AFB

    MacDill Air Force Base will migrate 6th Air Mobility Wing, except 6th Medical Group, 927th Air Refueling Wing and five other units computer users into the internet “Cloud” under a directive by the Air Force Space Command to realign resources to more critical priorities and outsourcing services such as email. As a result, the dreaded “your mailbox is full” message is soon to be a thing of the past.
